The commission was to produce a cloth for the new communion table made by the Grassmarket Trust. The panels depict common medicinal plants used by the friars as medicine for the poor -yarrow, that staunches bleeding; calendula, oil that protects the skin; hypericum, treats depression and anxiety; dog rose, a source of vitamin C. The centre panel reflects one of the existing stained glass windows in the church. The other commission was for a panel depicting the "machair" for the communion table that sits in St. John"s Aisle where Gaelic services are held.
